The down and dirty: 3 heat wins, 2 feature wins (2 clean sweeps in a row), a 3rd and a 10th.

The long version: On 5-30-11 we headed to RRVS in West Fargo, ND, hoping for another strong run after last weeks win and the “shoulda” won the week before that. The heat was some what dry and fairly smooth. Scotty started 4th and finished 3rd. We missed the setup on the car, as we had planned for a tacky track. This put us starting 9th in the 28 car Wissota midwest modified feature. With 8 laps to go, there was a caution and Scott was still in 9th. With a bold move, the Pizza Ranch sponsored 1s machine went super high into corner one, attempting to pass several cars on the high side, but blew the car of the track instead. Scott quickly pulled back on the track to avoid causing a caution and was running in about the 24th position. The pedal went down and one by one, Scott passed 14 cars high and low and ended the night finishing 10th. 21x Travis Saurer won, followed by 4X Dev Malmlov and #2 Rusty Kollman finished 3rd.

On Friday, we headed back to I-94 speedway in Fergus Falls, MN. As luck would have it, we started outside pole of the 2nd heat. The track was tacky and super fast. Scott got the lead on the first lap and held on til the checker. This put us starting 4th in the main event. As the night went on the track started to dry out. For the feature, the TruXedo sponsored 1s machine, powered by Dakota Engine Builders got a good start and moved into 2nd place on about lap #2. On the first caution, #53 Chris Mensen was leading. On the restart, coming out of corner 2, Scott had the lead. The race went caution free until there were 2 laps to go. After the fire truck put out an engine fire we went to green, white and checker conditions. By this point, 21x Travis Saurer had moved in to 2nd from 8th and hard charging #60 Dan Ebert into 3rd from the 11th starting position. The green dropped and Scott kept the lead with Saurer working the high side and the 1s machine on the low. After the white flag on the back stretch, the 21x and 1s got together and Scott let off the gas a little and Saurer wheel hopped Scott’s right front tire as both drivers charged hard into corner 3. Coming out of corner 4, Scott was low and Saurer, with some steam, on the high side… at the flag, the 1s machine came in first by a foot or two with Saurer finishing 2nd and Dan Ebert 3rd. This was the first ever feature win for the 1s team at the track. A little roof dancing was in order.

At the Jamestown Speedway 6-4-11

Next we drove the hauler back home to race at the Jamestown Speedway on 6-4-11. Our luck stayed strong and we started again outside pole with #2 Josh Eberhardt on pole. The two driver raced side by side for just about 8 laps with Scott on the high side and Josh on the low, with the 1s machine picking up the heat win. This put us starting 9th in the 24 car feature event. The track was dry with a little tack high and low. The race started with #2 Lyn Lamb taking the early lead. After 2 laps or so, Scott was in 3rd with #2 Rusty Kollman in 2nd. On a restart, Scott made a move to pass Kollman high and being working on the leader, getting some side by side racing with the leader with Scott in the middle and Lamb running the bottom, then a caution came out. Scott picked low for the restart behind lamp. Grabbing the lead going into corner 3 and keeping it through another caution and ultimately driving the Millenium chassis 1s machine into victory lane with #2 Kollman in 2nd and Lamb in 3rd. Picking up our 2nd clean sweep in 2 nights and our 4th feature win of the season. Here is the article about the race from the Jamestown Sun. Bintz continues to tear up Speedway. Below is also a complete video of the race.

We ended the week at the Sheyenne River Speedway. Again our luck was strong and we drew outside pole of the 2nd heat. The track was slightly dry with some tack and the 1s machine took the heat win, picking up our 9th heat win of the racing season. On the redraw, we drew the 7th starting position for the feature. The feature offered dry slick track conditions and went 20 laps straight, without a caution. Scott moved up a car every few laps and begin chasing down the earlier leaders #71 Nate Reinke and #91 Jarrett Carter. By the checker, Scott was making a good run for 2nd but Carter held him off and Reinke picked up the feature win.

After last weeks breakdown while leading the feature with 4 to go, the Scott Bintz Racing team was hoping for some extra luck at the RRVS Red River Valley Speedway in Fargo, ND on 5-25-11

The down and dirty: Won the heat and won the feature!!! 2 in a row… Holla

The long version: Chase, the head tire grinder and pitman, once again drew well for the team putting Scott in the second heat of 3 heats in outside pole. On the start, Scotty got the earlier lead and pulled away from the pack. There was a caution with 4 to go. Again, the 1s machine took the lead and kept it picking up our 5th heat win of the season. The heat win and points system put us starting 3rd in the feature. The track was starting to dry with some tack around the bottom. It was a little bumpy but very racy. Scott grabbed the earlier lead working the low groove. There were several cautions, but we were able to keep the lead. On the white checker lap #21x Travis Saurer, coming from 9th showed Scotty a fender going into corner one. However, coming out of corner 2, the lead was again secured and team SBR picked up our 2nd feature win of the season, followed by #21x Saurer and #44 Greg Larson.

The long version: On Friday 5-13-11 we headed to I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN for their 2nd night of racing. Scott started 4th in the heat, which was pretty tacky moved up to 3rd quickly and battles for 2nd most of the heat to ultimately finish 3rd. Car was a little pushy for the track conditions to do much passing. For the feature, we started 9th and begin moving up pretty good. Scott was tail ended on a questionable call, as he was checking up for another driver and spun. With about 1/2 the race left, Scott was able to drive with some spirit and put us back in the top 10 for a 10th place finish. 21x Travis Saurer picked up his 2nd feature win at I-94.

We stayed over night in Fergus Falls and then had to play the “where won’t the rain be game”. As luck would have it, we made the right choice to head to North Central Speedway in Brainerd, MN. The heat was fast and tacky, Scott picked up the heat win. For the feature, we started in the 6th position. Again the track was fast and racy. Scott moved up a position every few laps working the low and high groove. With2 laps to go, there was a caution with Scott in 3rd, behind #7a Sabraski with #60 Dan Ebert leading. On the re-start Sabraski picked the high grove putting Scott in the low, when the green dropped the #1s machine made the pass for second in corners 1 & 2 and begin chasing down Ebert. However, Ebert, another Millenium Chassis driver, was super fast and pulled off the win with Scott in 2nd and Sabraski in 3rd.

On Sunday, we tried our luck at the Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN. Starting 4th in the heat, Scott was on a mission and passed his way to the front for the heat win. This put us starting 4th in the feature. The track was getting dry and there were a few cautions. Scott moved up to 3rd and then during a caution ran over some debris from a wrecked car that busted the radiator. So we picked up a 16th place DNF. #21x Travis Saurer won followed by #60 Dan Ebert.

Next we headed to Fargo on Wednesday 5-25-11 for the Red River Valley Speedway opener. The Dakota Engine Builders powered 1s machine has been strong but we didn’t do the best at RRVS in 2010 so we were a bit nervous. But are luck was about to change with Scott finishing 2nd in the heat after hitting the wall on the start. On the re-draw, Scott started 3rd in the feature. After a few laps, the 1s Machine took the lead. The track was really rough and there were numerous cautions. Each re-start, Scott kept the lead and victory seemed at our finger tips. But, as luck would have it, with 4 laps to go, the right rear bar broke. So instead of a trip to victory lane, Scott got a free ride on the wrecker back to our pit area. All the same it was a good run. #91 Jarrett Carter won followed by #07 Cory Crapser.

After several weekends of rain outs, the SBR team was able to get in the first fun filled, full weekend of Wissota racing action.

The down and dirty: Buried the hauler 2 feet deep but still made it to 3 tracks, two 2nd place finishes and a 5th place finish.

The long version: On Friday, May 6th, after extra help from Correl Farms, Randy’s Auto Xpress, K&D towing and Dakota Engine Builders in getting the hauler pulled from the mud, we headed for the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN for their season opener.

Pre-Race Bad Driving

The temperature was in the 60′s and there was a full turn out of race cars and fans. Scott drew the 8th starting spot in the 2nd of 4 midwest modified heats. The tacky track was fast and Scott was able to move up to 3rd at the checker putting him in the 10th starting position for the feature. With a full field of race cars the feature was smooth and fast going from green to checker with no cautions. Scott moved up a car or so ever few laps for a 5th place finish at the end. #21x Travis Saurer won followed by #22 Levi Arneson and #6 Brian Haben.

On a side note, test pilot and past national champion, Dustin Strand drove the back up Dakota Engine powered Millenium chassis into victory lane at the River Cities speedway in Grand Forks, ND on Friday night.

On Saturday, we headed about 40 miles further east to hit up the Viking Speedway opener in Alexandria, MN. The fast 1/2 mile track is known for tough competition and fast racing with the long straight aways and sweeping corners. Scott’s drawing skills haven’t improved much, so we started 6th in the 2nd of 4 heats of the night. Not being overly familiar with the track, the car was set up way to tight for the track, but amazingly we moved up a couple of spots to finish 4th in the heat putting us in the 14th position for the feature.

Racing To The Front

After some fine tuning on the suspension, we were ready for the feature but not really knowing what to expect for the track conditions. The track was fast with lots of passing and a few cautions along the way. With about 4 laps to go, Scott had made it up to 2nd and was challenging the leader, #21x Travis Saurer for the lead running almost even up at one point across the line giving the fans some last minute excitement. However, Saurer hasn’t won over 200 features because he is easy to pass. Saurer adjusted his line and was able to hold Scott to a 2nd place finish with #6 Brian Haben in 3rd.

Jacked Up @ BRRP

Feeling good about the car, we headed back to Jamestown for Mother’s Day fun and then back to the race track for the season opener at the Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN. BRRP is a small 1/4 mile track known for tight racing and crazy fans. The weather was fairly questionable, but Mother Nature kept the rain away for the races. Scott drew pole of the 1st heat. Losing the lead on about the 2nd lap, Scott was able to reel back in the leader and take the lead with about 3 laps to go, picking up the first heat win of the season. Starting 3rd in the feature, there was a first lap caution and then the race got under way. Scott got the earlier lead and was several cars deep into lap traffic with 3/4′s of the race complete. With the car being a little pushy and then getting jammed up behind two lap traffic cars, Saurer took the lead. This time it was #42 Ron Saurer. There was a caution with 3 laps to go. On the restart, Scott put every he and the Millenium chassis had into passing for the lead, but good ole Ron Saurer had his car and driving dialed in and there was no catching him. Scott finished 2nd with #2K Rusty Kollman in 3rd.

Ultimately fun was had, the Dakota Engine Builders powered, Milleninum Chassis 1s machine is getting fine tuned and the racing season is in full swing. See you at the Track!! For at the track nightly updates, join the Scott Bintz Racing Fan club on facebook.

The Long Version… went to I-94 Speedway on 8/27/10 and finished 3rd in the heat. Scott started 7th in the feature and slowly worked his way up the pack getting into 3rd. On a restart with 5-6 to go, Scott was able to pass Dan Ebert low in corner 1 and 2 and then made a move to take the lead from Travis Saurer in corner 3 and 4. However, they got together a little, which jammed Scott up a bit and toed the car out. Ebert made the pass back for 2nd and started battling Saurer for the lead. 21x Saurer won, followed by 60 Ebert and Scott finished 3rd.

Denting the Roof

We then headed to Jamestown Speedway for the season championship on 8/28/10. We drew about the biggest number in the bucket and started in the back of the 2nd heat. Scott was able to make it up to 2nd in the heat which put him starting 6th the feature. The feature was dry with some traction on the bottom. There was a first lap caution. On the 2nd restart, Scott moved from the high side on the front stretch to the bottom of corner one putting him in 4th coming out of corner two. After a few laps his was in 2nd, battling for first. With about 11 laps to go, Scott got the lead and somewhat checked out getting into lap traffic before taking the checkered flag. 68 Taylor Weight got 2nd followed by Z17 Zach Naastad. (video below)

Next we went to BRRP on 8/29. Once again drew the big number putting us in the back of the heat. Scott made it up to 4th and started 12th in the super dry feature. We tried a few new things on the set up and were able to make it up to 6th. 21x Travis Saurer won followed by 60b Patrick Brejcha and 72 Adam Johnson.

After some car fixing by Spencer, we headed to I-94 Speedway the following Friday 9-3 and again drew about the biggest number in the bucket. Scott started 7th in the 4th heat and finished 4th putting us starting 16th in the feature. Scott worked his way up in the feature and with about 6th laps to go, he was making a pass for 5th and got together with #15 Ryan Mikkelson and the call was made on Scott (oops again…we think this is one of those times when the call could have been different, but we could have bad eyes too). Scott was sent tail end and made it back to 13th. #60 Dan Ebert won followed by #17 Rich Pavlicek and #2 Josh Eberhardt.

Next we headed to the Jamestown Speedway for the Labor Day Weekend double header on Sat & Sun 9/4 and 9/5/10. Over 40 Wissota Midwest Modified came for the event. There were 5 heats the first night with Scott starting 3rd in the 1st heat and he picked up the heat win. On the redraw, we started outside pole. The feature was super dry top to bottom. #17 Lance Schill took the earlier lead as Scott dropped back to 5th. After some cautions Scott was back in 3rd and then moved up to 2nd. With 4 to go Jason Grimes passed Scott for 2nd and then a lap later passed Ryan Mikkelson for the lead. #2 Grimes won followed by #15 Mikkelson. On the white flag lap Levi Arneson, who had come from 19th, Scott & Mikkelson all got together in corner 3 & 4. The race continued to the checker and the 1s was scored 3rd. On the 2nd night, our drawing skills got even better. Scott started outside pole of the 4th heat and picked up the heat win. On the redraw, we drew pole for the feature. The track was dry with a little traction on the bottom. There as a first lap caution. On the restart, #2 Josh Eberhardt got the lead and Scott was able to make the pass for the lead on about lap 3. Scott lead the race until about lap 17 when #99 Cale Arneson passed him low, while #2 Eberhardt passed him high coming out of corner two. Scott must have drove corner 3 and 4 just about perfect as he was able to pass both back on the low side coming out of corner 4 taking the lead back and going on to see the checkered flag first picking up his 8th win of the season. #2 Josh Eberhardt finished 2nd followed by #99 Cale Arneson.

Special thanks to everyone for all the help this season. We are taking the week off to prepare for the BIGGEST Wissota Race of the Year, the Wissota 100 in Huron, SD on Sept 15th-18th, 2010.

The down and dirty… King of the Dirt at I-94 Speedway there were 43 Midwest Modifieds, we started 14th and finished 4th (yeah). Jamestown Speedway finished 3rd (yippie) and at Thunder Mountain Speedway we won the feature (Yeehaw). Whoot… Scott’s 6th feature win of the season!!.

The long version… We headed out to I-94 Speedway on Friday 8-20-10 for the “King of the Dirt” event. Scott started 3rd in the 4th heat and finished 3rd (Shane Sabraski started outside pole and Ryan Mikkelson on pole and they were side by side for 8 laps with Shane taking the heat win). The 3rd place heat finish put us starting the feature in the 14th spot . The feature was fast and Scott worked his way up to 4th with 2 past National Champions (Sabraski & Saurer) and Dan Ebert (currently 3rd in National points) ahead him. Shane Sabraski won followed by Travis Saurer and Dan Ebert.

On 8-21-10, we headed back home to the Jamestown Speedway. Scott drew the biggest number in the bucket putting him in the 8th position of the last heat. The heat was heavy, but Scott managed to make it up to 3rd, which put him starting in the 7th spot out of 25 in the feature. The feature was dry with some tack and had several first lap cautions. After they got going, Scott worked up to 3rd and began battling Ryan Mikkelson so 2nd for the remainder of the race. Josh Eberhardt won, followed by Ryan and then Scott.

Next, we headed to the Thunder Mountain Speedway on Sunday. The heat was super heavy and Scott was only able to make it up to 4th. In the feature, Scott started 4th and got the lead on about lap 7 or 8 and held on the rest of the way. There was a caution with about 5 laps to go, but Scott kept the lead and took the checker on the 20th lap making this his 6th feature win of the season.

Scott started outside pole in the 5th heat for the Midwest Mods. 45 of them showed up to race. Scott was racing for 1st when the leader got sideways putting an end to Scott’s racing as he picked up a right front flat in the heat. Scott started 14th in the 1st b-main.. Scott was really hooked up and worked his way up, a car at a time, to a 2nd place finish. The 2nd place finish gave us a 19th starting spot in the feature. After a first lap caution, the race went green to checker. Scott was again pretty hooked up and finished 10th. #20G, Tom Gill took the win. Scott passed 21 cars for the night, which just might be a career high.

On Sunday, we went to Buffalo River Race Park in Glydon, MN. With the help of Scot Sloan (the sunday night grinder), we got the car set up and started 4th in the 2nd heat. It was a 1 caution heat and Scott worked his way up to 2nd and started to reel in the leader when we ran out of laps. For the feature, we started 7th. Scott quickly began moving up a car at a time and after about 8-9 laps was in 2nd and begin chasing down the leader. It was a good race at the end for the fans, as Scott was able to challenge the leader a little but never quite enough to get around him and number 21x Travis Saurer took the checker and Scott finished 2nd.

Our last race of the season was the 38th Annual Stock Car Stampede at the Jamestown Speedway on Sept 25th & 26th, 2009. 55 Wissota Midwest Modifieds were on hand to race. Scott drew 48 out of 100 for starting positions which put him starting 4th in the 6th heat. We had to get top 2 to make it in the main feature on Saturday. The heat was tacky and pretty fast. Scott got a good start and passed Dustin Strand for the lead coming out of corner 4. Then there was a caution with 9 laps to go. Scott got a great restart and kept the lead for the 10 lap heat win. The 6 heat winners had a draw for the starting line up at the Stock Car Stampede and Scott drew starting position # 5. On Saturday, the feature was very dry but still pretty fast. Scott worked his way up to 3rd after about 5 or 6 laps and spent the rest of the race trying to reel in Travis Saurer and Steve Ost. Scott got right up to Ost’s bumper but then slide off the track a bit but was able to recover pretty fast and end of the feature in 3rd. Travis Saurer won followed by Steve Ost. Below are some pictures from the Stampede. For complete details and up to date results and stats, see the Detailed Racing Results page.

On Wednesday 9-16-09 over 80 Wissota Midwest Modifieds were in 8 heat races on the first day. The format was you had to get top 3 in the heat to make the first round of the qualifying feature. 24 race cars would be in the first qualifying feature. The top 12 in the qualifying feature would make up the first 4 rows of the 30 car, 3 wide start main event on Saturday night. Anyone who doesn’t qualify then redraws the Thursday and the process is repeated with taking the top 12 in the 2nd day qualifying feature making up the 5 thru 8th rows of the main feature. The remaining 6 spots will be determined on Friday with the last chance races. Scott drew 296 out of 600 numbers. Scott started 5th in the 8th heat. He got a good start and slowly moved up to 2nd for most of the race. On the last corner of the last lap he was passed and finished 3rd. The 3rd place finish put him starting 23rd in the qualifying feature. The qualifying feature was tacky, fast and have some dry spots all over the place. Scott moved up a few cars per lap and got up to about 10th and then started getting pretty loose. He ended up finishing 11th with some good luck and fall out as a result of some wrecks. At one point on the back stretch there was a car spinning low and another one high at the same time, which Scott was able to avoid. The 11th place finish allowed Scott to qualify the first night and he would be starting in the 11th position in the main feature on Saturday night, which would be 4th row in the middle. Brandon Davis won the qualifying feature followed by Curt Myers and Travis Saurer.

Since Scott was already qualified we got to enjoy the races on Thurday 9-17 and Friday 9-18. For the 9-17 qualifying feature in the Midwest Modified class, Jason Zdroik won followed by Dustin Strand and Rich Pavlicek. On Friday 9-18 the Midwest Modfied last chance races were ran as well as the race of champions. There were 3 last chance races with about 16 cars in each. You had to get top 2 to get one of the last 6 spots for the main Saturday night feature. The Race of Champions was composed of 24 cars in which you had to be a track champion, a past Wissota 100 winner or National Champ. It was a spectacular race to watch. The best of the best. Scott was not qualified to be in this race, even though he is currently ranked 19th in national points out of almost 800 drivers as he did not win a track championship this year. It was a fast action packed race with Dan Ebert winning followed by Marshal Tofte and Matt Leer.

Saturday 9-19 was the big day with all the main feature events to be raced. There was a parade of champions event, in which all the qualifying cars from all the classes were on the track at the same time. Scott was very pleased to be among them. The 3 wide 30 car Midwest Modified feature event started very smoothly. Scott moved up from 11th pretty fast and was battling for 5th position. There were 2 cautions where Scott started on the inside, which was not the fast lane. After battling for 5th for several laps, Scott and another driver rubbed wheels pretty hard coming out of corner 4th. This cost Scott a few positions, a car that was toed in and aftern that car seemed to be getting looser. Scott eventually went high on the track and wound up hitting the wall in the center of corner 3 and 4. Ultimately, Scott finished the race in the 12 position. It was a great race, we probably had at top 5 car, but we must have used up most of our luck just getting into the main event. Travis Saurer won followed by Curt Myers and Dan Ebert.

The Wissota 100 was a spectacular weekend. The Scott Bintz racing team would like to again thank all our sponsors, fans and helpers for making it possible. Special thanks to Douglas Daniel for his almost week long pitman duties. Our sponsors include RealTruck.Com, The Pizza Ranch, Dakota Engine Builders, Ringers Gloves, TruXedo Tonneau Covers and Torza Top.

The weekend plans on Friday August 14th, 2009 began with plans to race River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. However, with a rain out we headed to the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND. Scott started 4th in the heat and on the started dropped back several spots. After he completed a few laps he started moving up again and finished 3rd. Then the rain came and the races we cancelled.

On Saturday August 15th, 2009, we headed back to Jamestown for some racing at the Jamestown Speedway. At 4pm this was a pretty good down pour of rain but the track was able to work it in. 32 MW Mods showed up for the race. There were 4 heats with 8 cars in each. Scott Bintz start on pole in the 4th heat. Scott got the earlier lead and kept it through three cautions. Very tacky track in both the heat and feature. On the starting lap of the feature, Scott got spun and into the mud he went in the center of the track. On the restart he moved into 5th pretty quickly and after several laps into 4th. The 3rd place runner dropped out so Scott got into third for the last few laps of the race. On a restart with 4 to go, Scott got passed at the end by Austin Arneson (who was bad fast and had been sent tail end at the beginning of the race) and wound up finishing 4th. John Corell led most of the race but bobbled on the last lap. Dustin Strand won, followed by Corell and Austin Arneson. On a side note, the heat winners got spots 1-4 in the feature.

On Sunday, we went to BRRP, Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN. Scott started 4th in the 4th heat and moved up a car a time and got the lead. He won the heat by about a straight away as the car was pretty hooked up. In the feature, he started 7th. On the first corner, Scott spun out and got sent tail end. After that the Midwest Mods went 15 laps without a caution and Scott moved up from 20th to finish 10th. Car worked well, but the spin out on the first lap didn’t help. Travis Saurer won the feature.
