2009 Scott Bintz Racing Midwest Modified Summary
Heat Wins: 14 | Feature Wins: 4 | Top 5’s: 24 | Top 10’s: 9

On Wednesday August 26th, we headed to the Sheyenne River Speedway for their county fair special with both Wissota Midwest Modified and Wissota A-Mods. Scott started 3rd row inside in the heat and moved up about a car per lap. He almost got the heat win but drove it in a little low on the last lap. Then there was a last corner caution thrown. For the feature, Scott got jammed up a bit and dropped back a few spots on the start. He started moving up and got into 2nd. He wasn’t ever able to reel in the leader too much. Scott got close a few times but not enough to make a good run for the lead. He did get a few chances to try for the lead on the re-starts, but the leader was pretty smooth towards the end of the race. Scott Finished 2nd. Randy Klein was the feature winner.

On Friday we headed to the River Cities Speedway. On the trip, we picked up Chad Bolte in Fargo, ND for his first “in the pits” experience. There were about 30 Midwest Modified at the event. For the heat race, Scott spun out of the first corner of the heat and was sent tail end. He was able to make it back to 4th. For the feature, it was dry slick and Scott moved up pretty good making it up to 6th. With 4 laps to go, he spun out going into corner one trying to make a double pass in between to other race cars. With only 4 laps to go, he was sent tail end and made it back to 13th. Aaron Olson was the feature winner followed by Dustin Strand.

On Saturday, we headed back to the Jamestown Speedway for the season championship. There were as usual over 30 Wissota Midwest Modifieds at the event. The heat was fast and tracky. Scott got up to battling for 2nd, but finished 3rd. Scott was really hooked up in the feature and got 2 great starts and was in 3rd coming out of corner 2 twice, but both were called back due to cautions. Once the feature race got going, Scott made it up to 4th and was racing hard for 3rd. Got passed at the end and finished 5th. Dustin Strand won followed by Taylor Weight and Zach Naastad. The Track Champion for the Midwest Modified for 2009 was Dustin Strand, followed by Josh Eberhardt and Ryan Mikkelson. Scott Bintz was 4th in points.

Racing Update | Back To The Track

Turns out the engine we blew up on Saturday will take some work to repair. It dropped a valve and was damaged much more than we thought. However, we got the new engine tuned and installed thanks to Dakota Engine Builders on Monday.

On Tuesday 7-14-09 we headed to the Sheyenne River Speedway. We won the heat and finished 5th in the feature. The car seems a little loose. The track was dry in both the heat and feature. Jarrett Carter #91 won the feature.

Friday we headed up to Grand Forks to the River Cities Speedway. Got 2nd in the heat and 6th in the feature. Still need to do some crankin on the car as it seems too loose coming out. Thanks to Scott’s bride, Shannon and her help, we were able to race the feature as we had some axle troubles from tapping the wall in the heat. Dustin Strand #71 won the feature.

Today we are back home and heading to the Jamestown Speedway tonight. Cross Fingers….

Update 7-19-09: At the Jamestown Speedway on 7-18-09, Scott Bintz started pole in the 4th heat. About 35 Midwest Modifieds showed up to race. Scott got the early led and with about 2 laps to go, Dustin Strand made the pass and won the heat. In the feature Scott started 3rd. On the starts, Scott seemed to drop back a few spots each time. The track was a dry slick and Scott was running low. With about 5 laps to go, Scott was in about the 12th spot and went to the high side. On the high side Scott started moving up pretty quick and finished 6th. He had to check up a few times for other drivers and that slowed in some. Dustin Strand won the feature.

Update 7-21-09: At the Sheyenne River Speedway, Scott started on pole in the second heat. He got the lead right away and was challenged most of the race by Rich Pavlicek most of the heat, with Rich getting the lead win 1 lap to go, but Scott was able to pass him back for the heat win. For the feature Scott started 7th and ultimately finished 4th. Track was a dry slick. Rich Pavlicek won followed by Ryan Mikkelson and Jarrett Carter. Click Here to See the Videos.

The weekend of July 3rd started with a trip up to River Cities Speedway. Scott started 6th in the heat and finished 4th. Made it up to 2nd but was drilled in the left front tire and had to run the last 4 laps with a flat. The feature was dry, but had some tack. Started 12th and finished 5th. Scott made some good passed until he got to 5th and pretty much stayed there the last few laps.

The Fourth of July was very eventful with RealTruck.Com sponsoring the races at the Jamestown Speedway. Scott and other drivers sponsored by RealTruck started the parade lap with the American Flag. The Scott Bintz Race team had about the worst possible draw of the night for starting positions in the heats putting us in the 9th position in the first heat. The track was fast and Scott made it to 4th which put him in the 10th position for the feature. The track was bone dry for the feature which allowed for some good racing. Scott made it to 2nd by about lap 10 and passed Ryan Mikkelson for the lead and had the lead for a couple of laps until Dustin Strand got into the mix. It was 3 wide action for a few laps and Dustin took the lead. Bintz and Mikkelson battled for 2nd. It was an excited end with Dustin Strand winning, followed by Ryan Mikkelson and then Scott.

On July 6th, we headed to Buffalo River Race Park and started the 3rd heat on outside pole, next to you guessed it, Dustin Strand. Strand won the heat followed by Scott. For the feature it was dry but they watered the high side of the track right before the feature. Scott started 5th and finished 3rd. He made a pass for 2nd exiting the last corner of the race but pass pushed into the wall and hit the brakes for a 3rd place finish.

Racing Cut Short in Grand Fork B/C of Tornado Warning

We rushing to get the car ready to race up at the River Cities Speedway and hit the road about 3:45pm. We arrived just in time to unload the car and prepare for hot laps. During hot laps the car was working pretty good.

Then….. around 7 pm the storm rolled in. We were told a tornado touched down about 8 miles east of Grand Forks, ND and we heading towards town. Then a few minutes later, a tornado was sighted 4 miles east of town. We packed up the race car and hit the road headed south. It seems like the storm was growing both east and south. We were on the edge of the storm all the way to Hillsboro, ND until we finally drove away from it. Getting sheets of rain on the drive.

We arrived back home in Jamestown, just in time to get down poured on again as it was raining pretty hard as we drove into town. Hopefully Jamestown Speedway will have a nice night for racing on saturday.

The weekend of racing on 5-29-09 started out pretty good in Grand Forks at the River Cities Speedway with a heat win and 4th place feature finish. But after that, its been a struggle with mechanical issues. At the Jamestown Speedway, we won the heat. Cool, back in action we thought. Then the brakes went out on the first lap of the feature. At Buffalo River Race Park, the brake were lost again in the heat. After some fixing, we headed out for the feature. On the first caution, the brakes went out again. After a few laps, had to pull in and call it a night. On the drive home I had to remind myself “that racing”. Sometimes you do well and sometimes not so well. We are hoping to pull out of our not so well phase. After some more repairs, we headed to the Sheyenne River Speedway. The car had a push in the heat and managed to drive it off the track. Oh fun to be a half lap behind. After being almost a lap down, I caught the pack but not in time to pass anyone. It was fun driving the car literally all out. Hit 7,000 RPMs. In the feature, our set up changes weren’t what we were hoping and the car was still pushing bad coming out of the corners. Finished the race. Hopefully after some set up adjustments this week, we can get back into the groove for coming weekend of racing. The Results have been updated. Smile and Pass it On.
