After last weeks breakdown while leading the feature with 4 to go, the Scott Bintz Racing team was hoping for some extra luck at the RRVS Red River Valley Speedway in Fargo, ND on 5-25-11

The down and dirty: Won the heat and won the feature!!!  2 in a row… Holla

The long version: Chase, the head tire grinder and pitman, once again drew well for the team putting Scott in the second heat of 3 heats in outside pole.  On the start, Scotty got the earlier lead and pulled away from the pack.  There was a caution with 4 to go.  Again, the 1s machine took the lead and kept it picking up our 5th heat win of the season.  The heat win and points system put us starting 3rd in the feature.  The track was starting to dry with some tack around the bottom.  It was a little bumpy but very racy.  Scott grabbed the earlier lead working the low groove.  There were several cautions, but we were able to keep the lead.  On the white checker lap #21x Travis Saurer, coming from 9th showed Scotty a fender going into corner one.  However, coming out of corner 2, the lead was again secured and team SBR picked up our 2nd feature win of the season, followed by #21x Saurer and #44 Greg Larson.

The weather was questionable on Friday May 20th, 2011 and we didn’t quite know where we would end up racing.  I-94 Speedway cancelled so we decided to head north and make the call on the way if we would run River Cities Speedway or Geographical Center Speedway.

The down and dirty:   Won the heat and won the feature!!!

The long version:  After checking the weather one last time, we decided to try out luck at the Geographical Center Speedway.   Good call, because RCS cancelled due to rain.  On the draw and kept our luck and started outside pole.  Scotty took the lead and drove on to pickup up his 4th heat win of the season.  For the feature, the track was tacky but going dry.   Scott drew outside pole again and captured the early lead.  The race went caution free and we got pretty deep into lap traffic.  At the end, Scott took the checker picking up our first feature win of the season followed by #2 Rusty Kollman and #58 Shawn Nostdahl came in 3rd.

The second weekend out took us to in to Minnesota for 3 nights of racing and then back to North Dakota for a 4th race.

The down & dirty: 2 heat wins, a 2nd place, a 10th place & 2 DNF’s.  From 9th to 4th to the tail end and back to 10th at I-94 Speedway.  From 14th to 2nd at North Central Speedway and from 4th to 3rd to a broken radiator for a DNF at BRRP.

The long version: On Friday 5-13-11 we headed to I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN for their 2nd night of racing.  Scott started 4th in the heat, which was pretty tacky moved up to 3rd quickly and battles for 2nd most of the heat to ultimately finish 3rd.  Car was a little pushy for the track conditions to do much passing.  For the feature, we started 9th and begin moving up pretty good.   Scott was tail ended on a questionable call, as he was checking up for another driver and spun.  With about 1/2 the race left, Scott was able to drive with some spirit and put us back in the top 10 for a 10th place finish.  21x Travis Saurer picked up his 2nd feature win at I-94.

We stayed over night in Fergus Falls and then had to play the “where won’t the rain be game”.   As luck would have it, we made the right choice to head to North Central Speedway in Brainerd, MN.   The heat was fast and tacky, Scott picked up the heat win.  For the feature, we started in the 6th position.  Again the track was fast and racy.  Scott moved up a position every few laps working the low and high groove.  With2 laps to go, there was a caution with Scott in 3rd, behind #7a Sabraski with #60 Dan Ebert leading.  On the re-start Sabraski picked the high grove putting Scott in the low, when the green dropped the #1s machine made the pass for second in corners 1 & 2 and begin chasing down Ebert.  However, Ebert, another Millenium Chassis driver, was super fast and pulled off the win with Scott in 2nd and Sabraski in 3rd.

On Sunday, we tried our luck at the Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN.   Starting 4th in the heat, Scott was on a mission and passed his way to the front for the heat win.  This put us starting 4th in the feature.   The track was getting dry and there were a few cautions.  Scott moved up to 3rd and then during a caution ran over some debris from a wrecked car that busted the radiator.   So we picked up a 16th place DNF.  #21x Travis Saurer won followed by #60 Dan Ebert.

Next we headed to Fargo on Wednesday 5-25-11 for the Red River Valley Speedway opener.  The Dakota Engine Builders powered 1s machine has been strong but we didn’t do the best at RRVS in 2010 so we were a bit nervous.  But are luck was about to change with Scott finishing 2nd in the heat after hitting the wall on the start.  On the re-draw, Scott started 3rd in the feature.   After a few laps, the 1s Machine took the lead.  The track was really rough and there were numerous cautions.  Each re-start, Scott kept the lead and victory seemed at our finger tips.  But, as luck would have it, with 4 laps to go, the right rear bar broke.  So instead of a trip to victory lane, Scott got a free ride on the wrecker back to our pit area.  All the same it was a good run.  #91 Jarrett Carter won followed by #07 Cory Crapser.

After several weekends of rain outs, the SBR team was able to get in the first fun filled, full weekend of Wissota racing action.

The down and dirty: Buried the hauler 2 feet deep but still made it to 3 tracks, two 2nd place finishes and a 5th place finish.

The long version: On Friday, May 6th, after extra help from Correl Farms, Randy’s Auto Xpress, K&D towing and Dakota Engine Builders in getting the hauler pulled from the mud, we headed for the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN for their season opener.

Pre-Race Bad Driving

Pre-Race Bad Driving

The temperature was in the 60′s and there was a full turn out of race cars and fans. Scott drew the 8th starting spot in the 2nd of 4 midwest modified heats. The tacky track was fast and Scott was able to move up to 3rd at the checker putting him in the 10th starting position for the feature. With a full field of race cars the feature was smooth and fast going from green to checker with no cautions. Scott moved up a car or so ever few laps for a 5th place finish at the end. #21x Travis Saurer won followed by #22 Levi Arneson and #6 Brian Haben.

Strand Visits Victory Lane
Strand Visits Victory Lane

On a side note, test pilot and past national champion, Dustin Strand drove the back up Dakota Engine powered Millenium chassis into victory lane at the River Cities speedway in Grand Forks, ND on Friday night.

On Saturday, we headed about 40 miles further east to hit up the Viking Speedway opener in Alexandria, MN. The fast 1/2 mile track is known for tough competition and fast racing with the long straight aways and sweeping corners. Scott’s drawing skills haven’t improved much, so we started 6th in the 2nd of 4 heats of the night. Not being overly familiar with the track, the car was set up way to tight for the track, but amazingly we moved up a couple of spots to finish 4th in the heat putting us in the 14th position for the feature.

Racing To The Front

Racing To The Front

After some fine tuning on the suspension, we were ready for the feature but not really knowing what to expect for the track conditions. The track was fast with lots of passing and a few cautions along the way. With about 4 laps to go, Scott had made it up to 2nd and was challenging the leader, #21x Travis Saurer for the lead running almost even up at one point across the line giving the fans some last minute excitement. However, Saurer hasn’t won over 200 features because he is easy to pass. Saurer adjusted his line and was able to hold Scott to a 2nd place finish with #6 Brian Haben in 3rd.

Jacked Up @ BRRP

Jacked Up @ BRRP

Feeling good about the car, we headed back to Jamestown for Mother’s Day fun and then back to the race track for the season opener at the Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN. BRRP is a small 1/4 mile track known for tight racing and crazy fans. The weather was fairly questionable, but Mother Nature kept the rain away for the races. Scott drew pole of the 1st heat. Losing the lead on about the 2nd lap, Scott was able to reel back in the leader and take the lead with about 3 laps to go, picking up the first heat win of the season. Starting 3rd in the feature, there was a first lap caution and then the race got under way.  Scott got the earlier lead and was several cars deep into lap traffic with 3/4′s of the race complete. With the car being a little pushy and then getting jammed up behind two lap traffic cars, Saurer took the lead. This time it was #42 Ron Saurer. There was a caution with 3 laps to go. On the restart, Scott put every he and the Millenium chassis had into passing for the lead, but good ole Ron Saurer had his car and driving dialed in and there was no catching him. Scott finished 2nd with #2K Rusty Kollman in 3rd.

Ultimately fun was had, the Dakota Engine Builders powered, Milleninum Chassis 1s machine is getting fine tuned and the racing season is in full swing. See you at the Track!!  For at the track nightly updates, join the Scott Bintz Racing Fan club on facebook.

Dakota Engine BuildersSome fine tuning was accomplished at test n tune on 5-3-11 at the Sheyenne River Speedway.   The Pizza Ranch sponsored, Dakota Engine Builders powered Wissota midwest modified got in about 50 laps or so.

The dry slick track conditions proved to be optimal for fine tuning the 1s machine.  The new Wissota Hoosiers are perhaps, a softer tire, that appears to offer more traction but also burn up pretty good. (or maybe the drivers foot needs help)

The Scott Bintz Racing teams hopes to get to the I-94 Speedway opener this Friday and then where ever mother nature takes us, which could be the Viking Speedway, North Central Speedway or perhaps home.

The Wissota racing season is just about to begin.  The first tracks in Wissota country to see some action will be in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  In chase for the Wissota midwest modified national championship, the Scott Bintz racing team will be heading to tracks throughout ND, MN, WI and SD.  May we be “lucky” and have lots of fun along the way.
